  1. Thank you Matt! This unit plan is coming along very well, and is already quite detailed and well thought out. Thank you for including links to the textbook, the hilarious lasagna-in-the-dishwasher video, the StatsCan data sets (fascinating that BC has so many more Indigenous language programs than any other province!) and straw polls, etc. Great work!!

I like your project, but I think you will need to put some constraints on the kind of data students will use or collect, and how they will undertake data analysis. In my experience giving a similar assignment to Grade 9s, kids often undertook too much, and tried to show correlation or cause and effect between two data sets -- and that's probably more than they have the capacity for at this point. They also need to figure out how to ask reasonable and analyzable questions if they are planning to administer their own poll or survey.

I like that you are having students work collaboratively with you to devise the assessment rubric!

Your lesson plan timings seem pretty realistic, and I just suggest that you define their group tasks a bit more specifically.

Excellent work so far, and looking forward to seeing the finished unit plan!

    1. Thanks for the wonderful feedback Susan! Is something like your second paragraph something I need to note explicitly in my unit plan, or is that something I can keep in mind for when planning my project write-up syllabus for students?
